Volunteers From Across the Region Help Feed the Hungry

The Feeding Hungry Families Packing Party at Metro Lutheran Ministry Jan. 16 drew volunteers from throughout metropolitan Kansas City.

Held at MLM’s main location, 3031 Holmes, the event drew more than 40 volunteers to package food and other supplies that will be distributed at MLM’s centers in Jackson, Clay and Wyandotte counties. Organized several times a year, Packing Parties are a way for large numbers of volunteers to help MLM’s effort serving thousands of area residents in need.

Held in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr., the Jan. 16 event was notable for the very large numbers of people from throughout the region. One family from Raymore, Mo., included Arica Johnson with her three children, Ava, 3, Gabby, 7, and Michael 10. Keara Torkleson of Baldwin City, Kan., brought her two sons Eldon, 3, and Colby, 1. Colby rode in a backpack while his mom sorted package items.
