Take the bite out of hunger by raising awareness and funds for MLM pantries in KCMO, KCK, and the Northland
March 1 - 31, 2018
Food is a central focus of MLM’s ministry because we believe “hunger is not an issue of charity. It is an issue of justice” (Jacquel Diouf, United Nations Food and Agricultural Director-General).
MLM's food pantries provide critical resources for over 5,600 families in the Kansas City metro area each year.
People who cannot afford to buy food are faced with impossible trade-offs every day. In order to feed their families, many Kansas Citians must sacrifice other basic needs. Of the MLM pantry guests polled, 72% routinely choose between paying their utility bills or going to the grocery store. Many parents skip meals so that their children can eat.
This March, in the middle of basketball season, we looked for an “assist" and we got one! We met our goal to raise $140,000 to help fund our emergency food programs in KCK, KCMO, and NKC for an entire year! Thanks to a generous matching gift challenge from Blessings Abound and the Frederick and Louise Hartwig Family Foundation for helping us meet this goal.
