Impact Wednesday is a coalition of trusted partner agencies that work together - simultaneously - to address a family's immediate needs while developing a plan for permanent and lasting solutions. MLM is proud to serve as co-lead in Impact Wednesday with Avenue of Life, located in Kansas City, KS.

Wyandotte County is one of the highest poverty areas in the state of Kansas. Approximately 1400 homeless students are living in the KCK school district and are in need of wrap-around services to meet their varied and complex needs.  Impact Wednesday is a one-stop resource for homeless families who have been referred by KCKPS McKinney-Vento Program. Our focus is on the child. It is our desire to ensure the child attends school, advances to the next grade, graduates high school, pursues post-secondary education, and goes on to be a contributing member of society. The Impact Wednesday model allows for a single day’s effort to be greatly multiplied through the collaboration of varied service providers providing targeted wrap-around care in a single space.

A collaborative partnership group called KCLE (Kansas Community Leadership Enterprise) began meeting over the course of a year to strategize ways to dramatically lower the overall poverty rates for children in Wyandotte County, as well as the High School dropout rates.  KCLE envisioned providing a weekly service outreach where collaborative service providers would come together to provide wrap-around services for families in one centralized location. Not long after the Kansas City Kansas Public School (KCKPS) system initiated a Call for Action to meet the staggering needs of the 1,400 McKinney Vento students, Avenue of Life began meeting with KCLE to narrow the focus of their initiative to meet the pressing needs of the 1,400 McKinney Vento students. Impact Wednesday launched in August of 2015 in order to address the pressing needs of these students and provide a strategic alliance of agencies that could help them and their families.
