MLM partners with Harvesters to take part in their BackSnack program. Children from low income/food insecure families will receive bags of food to take home over the weekend since they do not receive a school lunch over the weekend. These children come from households existing at or below 185% of the poverty level. Harvesters provides the food and MLM volunteers bag and deliver them. These bags are placed in the kiddo’s backpack at each school.
Occasionally we are in need of drivers to deliver BackSnacks to our partner elementary schools. Drivers need to arrive on Thursdays or Fridays every week between 8:30 am and 11:00 am to load up their cars with boxes of BackSnacks that they will drive to the elementary schools. These deliveries occur weekly. We also have a sub list for a driver that might be interested, but might not be available to drive each week. This is helpful if one of our regular volunteers is unavailable to deliver for any amount of time.
Senior Box Carriers
Each month, MLM distributes boxes of USDA commodities to seniors containing such items as cheese, canned vegetables, fruit juice, cereal, protein, and flour. We are always in need of individuals who are willing to offer a smile and a warm greeting to our seniors, and help them out to their cars with their boxes. Please note, each commodity box weighs approximately 25 - 30 pounds.
