MLM encourages volunteers to wear casual clothing, and NO open-toed shoes. At times you will be outside and should dress accordingly. The warehouse at MLM Central can be hot in the summer, and cold in the winter. Again, please consider this when dressing for a volunteer project. Layers are encouraged! Breakfast volunteers should wear hats to comply with health regulations.
Yes! We encourage this as a way for you to better understand the many ways that MLM serves our community. Please make arrangement for this prior to volunteering, as we want to make sure an MLM staffer is available to take you on the tour.
Answers to questions frequently asked by volunteers
We have both individual and group opportunities available. It is recommended that you give us the best possible estimate that you can if you plan to bring a group, as we use these numbers to determine if we need to seek out additional volunteers. Each volunteer opportunity has an ideal amount of volunteers needed.
There is limited parking in the MLM Central parking lot, but ample parking on Holmes between Linwood and 31st, as well as around 30th and Holmes. If you are at the MLM Northland or MLM KC, KS location you should have no problem parking in the associated church parking lot.
We have volunteer opportunities for all ages, however some are more kid-friendly than others. Packing parties and 2nd Saturday Mobile Food Pantries are especially kid friendly. For 2nd Saturdays, we would recommend that kiddos no younger than 5 years old to volunteer. This ensures the best possible safety measures are in place. For our packing parties, as long as a parent is with the child at ALL times, there is no age minimum.
Regardless of the age of the kiddo, we ask that parents remain with their kiddo to ensure accountability and safety!
