A major grant from the Baptist-Trinity Lutheran Legacy Foundation is supporting MLM in delivering the Kansas City Medicine Cabinet for the third year.
Two years ago, MLM and the Foundation partnered for creation of a pilot program to assist the hundreds of Kansas City area families who are forced to choose between buying groceries, paying rent or taking care of medical needs.
Increasingly expensive prescriptions, rising insurance costs and government changes have driven more people to seek emergency medical assistance…often with few good options.
Hundreds of families and individuals have been helped by the program, including a 58-year-old disabled veteran named Everett. Because of technicalities, he does not qualify for Medicaid help for his osteoporosis and neuropathy. VA doctors were unable to provide effective medication to alleviate his chronic pain until he reached the Medicine Cabinet.
The Medicine Cabinet is also helping others simply by providing information and referrals.
