Emergency Assistance for Families in Crisis
Poverty, chronic dependence, and unexpected crises that pitch individuals from their stable perch are neither new phenomena nor likely to fade away.
MLM’s Community Care programs provide assistance and services in the five county area for families in emergency situations. MLM's three Community Care locations in Wyandotte, Jackson and Clay Counties feed hungry people, provide articles of clothing, blankets for the cold weather and fans during the summer's heat.
Community Care assistance touches families by keeping people's lights on, their houses warm and roofs over their heads, helping families with utility bills and housing bills (rent, deposits, mortgages, etc.)
Beyond emergency assistance, Community Care helps families move into services and programs that address the underlying problems of poverty. Education, counseling and case management help families to break dependency cycles, to manage limited resources and to find their place in the community.
